EOxMaps puts geospatial data in its geographic context. Various map styles are provided and can be used in various geospatial applications on the web or desktop via OGC standard interfaces.
Product Description
Apart from the motivation to create beautiful maps, one of the EOxMaps main drivers is to split the background from overlay layers to enable embedding data properly in between. The reason is that both background and overlay provide spatial context in different ways. The background (e.g. Terrain Light) provides an idea of land usage and topography while the overlay adds labels and line features like borders or streets to provide more detailed information. Depending on the background map, one of two overlays can be enabled. Over the Terrain map, a dark version is used, whereas a bright version for better visibility can be enabled over the marble background maps.
EOxMaps is provided as a Web Map Tile Service (WMTS) or Web Map Service (WMS) layer. All WMTS and WMS layers are served in two standard tile sets using the two projections EPSG:4326 (simple lat/lon or WGS84) and EPSG:3857 (Google mercator or pseudo-mercator).
